HGB goes to China

Well, she went to the Chinese Garden in downtown Portland.

This place has really interesting rocks! Wow! A tree that is just my size. The paving stones are all perfect. Somebody has been busy.

The tea house is just lovely in the sunshine. Look at all this carving. They should have been carving sisters for ME! Tranquil beauty and harmony and some really nice little houses!

This guy was trying to look fierce, but he didn't fool me! I could have strolled across this bridge all afternoon but my personal tour guide was focused on "progress". A nice little meditation grove. Very comfy if you don't mind a damp bottom.

Here's a rock garden just my size. This plant is called the Flying Dragon. I looked for Sleeping Beauty somewhere within its branches - but found only more thorns! This rock is my size, too! The rocks were brought all the way from China.

I love this tree - it has a built-in Hitty chair. The waterfall made enough noise to drown out the noise of the city that surrounds the garden. It's right in the middle of downtown Portland. What a magical spot. I'm surprised I didn't find more six-inch people around here. The place has obviously been designed for us.

Flowering crab apples. Maybe I should bake a pie... This little teapot wanted to dance. My personal tour guide made every effort to get me close to the view. I was preparing for the butterfly stroke.

We all thought the waterfall was the most entertaining spot. The koi were nice but not as big as the ones in the Japanese Garden. This place is only a few years old and the koi are still growing. The buildings were lovely. I tried to talk my hostess into installing dragons on her roof. Her eyebrow did something funny.

The buildings are simply charming. Chinese tree props are a little more delicate than their Japanese counterparts. This is where I want to live. Perfect for a modest wooden doll of conservative taste.

The weeping willow really should have been painted on a plate. This is a very old wisteria. They must be very firm with it to keep it in the pot! A lovely visit - we walk away full of exotic images and new thoughts... How CAN I get a lease on that little house?

I brought home my very own Steppe Pony.

There was a bit of a scuffle over the horse. My hostess said something about the cost of postage for five pounds of bronze horse, but I know she just wanted to keep him for herself.
